Katy Perry Tops Billboard 200 & Digital Songs Chart

Tomorrow I will post the full results of the Billboard Hot 100 this week (with issue date September 11, 2010) but for now let me post the top 10 best selling songs (digital) and the top 10 albums on Billboard this week. Katy Perry tops both charts this week although the sales for her album "Teenage Dream" did not meet expectations selling 192, 000 this week (some people predicted it will sell at least 300,000 with two smash singles) but it was still a vast improvement from the first week sales of her debut album "One of the Boys" that sold 47,000 in June 2008 (and eventually sold 1.3 million in the US). The title track, which is her second single, sold 259, 000 digital copies this week enough to top the Billboard Digital Songs Chart.Thanks to my favorite music chart columnist Paul Grein of Yahoo! It's clear that album sales are really taking a hit in the digital age looking at how huge top 10 digital songs compared to the paltry sales of the albums. In my opinion if CDs are cheaper more people would buy. Despite the convenience of digital music, it still feels good to collect physical CDs, it has more sentimental value. I personally would buy more CDs if they don't cost that much. Oh well, I really hope the record executives would do something to save CD sales.
