Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: September 17, 2011)

Adele's Someone Like You flies #19-#1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 marking the British singer's second consecutive #1 after Rolling in the Deep ruled the chart for 7 weeks, the longest running #1 song this year so far. This is a remarkable feat in this day and age as slow songs struggle to reach the top 5 on the Hot 100, much less make it to #1. The "slow" songs that made atop the chart for the last couple of years were Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love (2008), Plain White Ts Hey There Delilah (2007) and Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry (2007). But the last piano-driven ballad to top the chart was actually Elthon John's "Candle in the Wind" in 1997. Adele is also the first British solo female artist to have two #1 songs from the same album.

Someone Like You's rise to the top was fueled by its strong digital sales this week of 275K which was boosted by Adele's well-received live performance of the song at the recent MTV Video Music Awards. Speaking of music videos, Adele's second single does not have an official music video so this is the first track to top the Hot 100 without an official music video 2009 chart topper Crack a Bottle by rappers Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre

Last week's #1, Maroon Five's Moves Like Jagger (featuring Christina Aguilera) descends #1-#2 but with rising airplay the song could take back the top spot from Adele next week. The wildcard is Foster the People's Pumped Up Kicks which stays at #3 this week, the song is neck-in-neck with Moves Like Jagger for the #2 spot on US iTunes and is also increasing its airplay.

Lady GaGa's You and I zooms #16-#6 this week marking the singer's 11th top 10 hit and so far all of Lady GaGa's official singles went all top 10 with Judas as the lowest peaking at #10 (it debuted at that position).

It seems like Bad Meet Evil's Lighters finally peaked it drops from #4 to #7 this week. The song is already declining in sales while airplay growth has stalled, if the song would not turn things around this will be Bruno Mars' 3rd #4 peaking track, the first two were Travie McCoy's Billionaire and the other one was his own The Lazy Song. Mars also has three #1s with Just The Way You Are, Grenade and his first #1 B.o.B's Nothin' on You. So far all of Bruno Mars top 10 hits is either a #1 or #4 song.

Cobra Starship scores their second top 10 hit as their dance track You Make Me Feel Good (featuring Sabi) Good flies #18-#8 this week. Their first Top 10 hit was Good Girls Go Bad which peaked at #7 in 2009. That track also features Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester.

I spoke to soon when I said last week that along side Adele's and Lady Gaga's new tracks. Rihanna's Cheers is guaranteed to enter the top 10 this week but well I was wrong as the song stays put at #11 this week. Blocking Rihanna was Katy Perry's Last Friday Night which drops #5 to #10. The Katy Perry track is dropping quite fast considering it topped the chart not too long ago but nevertheless Perry extends her top 10 streak to 69 wees but with no new single in sight it looks like Perry's streak will end next week.

Two new entries bows inside the top 20 Lil Wayne's Mirrors featuring Bruno Mars enters the chart at #16 and Beyonce's Love on Top debuts at #20. The latter track is not an official single from Beyonce (at least not yet) but it was performed during the MTV VMAs. The track already surpassed the peak position of Run The World which stalled at #29 but fell short with the second single Best Thing I Never Had's peak at #16. Will this be the first time that Beyonce fails to score a top 10 hit from an album? It's too early to tell but despite the lack of major hits Beyoce's album "4" is selling quite well. The last time Beyonce was in the top was from last year "Telephone", a Lady GaGa song where she was featured, that song peaked at #3.

The longest chart sitter, The Band Perry's If I Die Young slides #15-#19 on its 41st week. Looks like the track will not surpass its #14 peak much less enter the top 10.
