69th Golden Globe Awards Winners

The winners list and some reactions from me as well ;)

TV

Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Miniseries or TV Movie:
Peter Dinklage - Game of Thrones

This was my alternate pick and well as Dinklage said in his acceptance speech even his mother thought Mildred Pierce's Guy Pearce will win this award but deserving win for the Game of Thrones breakout star anyway.

Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series, Miniseries or TV Movie:
Jessica Lange - American Horror Story

Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie:
Idris Elba - Luther

Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie:
Kate Winslet - Mildred Pierce

Best Miniseries or TV Movie:
Downton Abbey

Got this all four right. I do wonder where they will place Downton Abbey next year since it already has a second season so it's no longer a limited run mini-series

Best Actor in a TV Series - Drama:
Kelsey Grammer - Boss

My second pick and as a Frasier fan glad Grammer finally found the right post-Frasier project. He had two flops sitcoms beforehand (Back to You and Hank) .

Best Actress in a TV Series - Drama:
Claire Danes - Homeland

Would likely bag the SAG and Emmy this year as well

Best TV Series - Drama:
Homeland

My second pick and admittedly I overestimated Ryan Murphy's appeal to the HFPA.

Best Actor in a TV Series - Comedy or Musical:
Matt LeBlanc - Episodes

Runaway winner from such a weak nomination slate

Best Actress in a TV Series - Comedy or Musical:
Laura Dern - Enlightened

Semi-surprise that she beat the younger and hipper Zooey but hey she's a Golden Globe favorite and a former movie star.

Best TV Series - Comedy or Musical:
Modern Family

Very glad I was wrong that New Girl win, glad HFPA finally recognized this show. It's the only win from a US network which does not say that network shows are in general bad but the HFPA just doesn't like the populist shows and wants to be put in the pedestal by picking cable shows which are more "elite". Anyway, Steve Levitan's and Sofia Vergara's acceptance speech was the best of the night.

Movie

Best Original Score:
Ludovic Bource - The Artist

Best Original Song:
"Masterpiece" - W.E.
(music and lyrics by Madonna, Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry)

Best Screenplay:
Woody Allen - Midnight in Paris

Best Director:
Martin Scorsese - Hugo

Best Foreign Language Film
A Separation - Iran

Best Animated Feature:
The Adventures of Tintin

Best Supporting Actor for a Motion Picture:
Christopher Plummer - Beginners

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture:
Octavia Spencer - The Help

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical:
Jean Dujardin - The Artist

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical:
Michelle Williams - My Week with Marilyn

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama:
George Clooney - The Descendants

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama:
Meryl Streep - The Iron Lady

Best Picture - Comedy or Musical:
The Artist

Best Picture - Drama:
The Descendants

I was wrong with Best Director (but very glad Scorsese won), Actress (a big loss for Viola Davis since the globes while not a good representation of the Academy's taste is a very good venue for campaigning), Supporting Actress (I thought Chastain is the typical type of actress that they reward but then I also thought of that last year by picking Amy Adams over Melissa Leo but look what happened) Screenplay (I thought they will not give it to Woody since he already announced earlier that he won't be attending the ceremony), Animated Feature (I thought Rango's streak of critics groups wins will overcome the star power of Spielberg and Peter Jackson) and Foreign Language Film (well on this one overwhelming critical acclaim beat star power which is good).
