Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: March 24 2012)

Billboard Hot 100 made some changes on the chart formula but that didn't stop fun. and Janelle Monae's We Are Young to secure a second week on top the chart. Billboard added On-Demand streaming (subscriber-based online streaming of music) in their calculations which actually helped We Are Young even more as the song tops the inaugural 'On Demand Songs" chart. Billboard reports that sales and radio airplay still has higher percentage in the tally although it's been slashed to give way for On-Demand streaming points. I believe this a a welcome development to the chart as it is reflecting the current trends in music right now.

These are the online streaming services now included in the Hot 100 formula: MOG, Muve Music, Rdio, Rhapsody, Slacker and Spotify. Also included are radio streams from Rhapsody and Slacker, on-demand audio streams from My Space and Guvera, and plays on video request service Akoo will be accounted as well.

Elsewhere on the chart, the #2 to #4 songs hold their position from last week while 4-week UK Singles Chart #1 single Somebody That I Used to Know climbs #9 to #5. Billboard reports that the new formula benefited the song as it is one of the top 5 songs on the new chart thus increasing its points.

Also getting a bump due to the revamp is Drake's Take Care featuring Rihanna which climbs #11 to #7, it's highest position to date. Speaking or Rihanna, her former 10-week #1 We Found Love exits the top 10 (#11 this week) after 23-week run in the top 10.

This week's top debut comes from John Mayer's new song Shadow Days debuting at #42. Would you believe that Mayer didn't have a top 10 song yet? His highest peaking song is Say which peaked at #12 in 2007. He has 6 more top 20 hits: No Such Thing (#13), Your Body Is A Wonderland (#18), Daughters (#19), Waiting On The World To Change (#14), Who Says (#17) and Fallout Boy's cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It (#19) in which he was a featured artist.

Adele's Rolling in the Deep is still the longest chart sitter and still there are no signs that the song will drop out soon as it climbs #32 to #30 on its 62nd week on the chart. On the opposite of longevity, Far East Movement's Live My Life which features Justin Bieber which debuted at #21 last week drops out this week as sales plummeted after the initial sales rush which is likely caused by Justin Bieber's role on the song. Bieber tracks usually fly on the sales charts on its first few days or release then drops like a rock. Also dropping out is Madonna's Give Me All Your Luvin which only spent 5 weeks but peaked at #10 thanks to strong initial sales.
