Philippine Box Office Roundup 10

Here's the 10th edition of my Philippine Box Office Roundup and you can read my previous recap here. And as always here are some notes with regards to my box office roundup:
  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.
  • I added some stuff like the Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol box office for 2012 since Box Office Mojo does not include that 2011 holdover on their Top Movies 2012 list. Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn so it's not on the charts below.

On the week before The Avengers domination there was not much box office action in Philippine cinemas as the only new wide release, romantic drama The Lucky One, debuted with a so-so 10.6 million pesos. The other new release in the chart is the Ayala cinemas exclusive Anonymous which earned 418k pesos in 3 theaters (Greenbelt 3, Glorietta 4 and Trinoma).

The Hunger Games and Wrath of the Titans are neck-in-neck for the runner up position behind top earning movie of the year UnOfficially Yours. The former earned 139.9 million pesos wile the latter has a 138.6 million pesos cume. There's a slight possibility that Wrath of the Titans could overtake The Hunger Games next week. Meanwhile, Battleship jumped to #5 on the year-to-date earning 95.9 million pesos in 2 weeks.

Also entering the top 10 is local comedy Moron Five and Crying Lady which earned 64 million pesos, good for the 9th spot. The movie's box office is on par with Viva's previous comedy Who's That Girl. On the other hand, Titanic 3D sails to the top 20 earning 23 million pesos.

The only new release this week is the much anticipated The Avengers. The movie is practically shown on 90% of screens in the country so expect a big numbers next week but the question is how big it will be? Let's see some statistics first before I share my prediction:

Thor (April 27 - May 1, 2011) - $1.3 million
Captain America (July 27 - 31, 2011) - $2.1 million
Iron Man 2 (April 28 - May 2, 2010) - $2.3 million
Iron Man (April 30 - May 4, 2008) - $1.7 million

Opening week box office of top Hollywood movies last year:

Pirates of the Carribean 4 - $1.4 million

Kung Fu Panda 2 - $1.9 million
X-Men: First Class - $1.6 million
Green Lantern - $1.6 million
Transformers 3 - $4.8 million
Harry Potter 7.2 - $3.5 million
Breaking Dawn - $3.2 million

Marketing is huge, no competition, no strong holdovers (Battleship will be on its 3rd week, Lucky One lost a lot of screens this week) plus summer time, I'm predicting a $3 million opening (130 thousand pesos).

Here are the Philippine Box Office charts (both in dollars and pesos) as I originally posted at the BoxOffice.com forums:
