Philippine Box Office Roundup 13

I know I just posted my 12th round up last night but since Box Office Mojo already updated with the latest information might as well post another roundup ;)

s always here are some notes with regards to my box office roundup:

  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.
  • I added some stuff like the Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol box office for 2012 since Box Office Mojo does not include that 2011 holdover on their Top Movies 2012 list. Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn so it's not on the charts below.

The powerhouse combo Johnny Depp-Tim Burton was not strong enough this time around as their latest collaboration Dark Shadows was well behind the shadows of the box office phenomenon The Avengers as the movie opened with a good but somehow so-so 26 million pesos. Dark Shadows was definitely hurt by The Avengers which was still #1 the weekend it opened with 53 million pesos on its 3rd week. Dark Shadows might struggle to cross 100 million pesos mark with a soft opening.

Meanwhile, box office superstar The Avengers now grossed an ASTONISHING 572.5 MILLION PESOS!!! The question does it have enough power to cross 600 million pesos? I say YES!

The other new releases that week was the Jonah Hill-Channing Tatum buddy comedy 21 Jump Street which earned a decent 6.5 million pesos and the action flick The Cold Light of Day with 2.1 million pesos. No available number yet for the local movie The Mommy Returns which opened last week as well.

Here are the Philippine Box Office charts (both in dollars and pesos) as I originally posted at the BoxOffice.com forums:
